A little bit about me…

So, who exactly is cancer girl, you might wonder? Well, she’s just an ordinary person like you, the only difference is that she’s a five-time cancer survivor and now she’s faced with metastatic disease, so I guess that makes it 6 times that cancer has reared its nasty head. Yup, you read that correctly, six times! Cancer has been a part of my life since I was three years old. I’ve battled this grueling illness as a child, teenager and young adult. Naturally, I have so much to say on the subject, so I figured what better forum is there than this blog to share some of my stories, opinions, updates. research, and thoughts with all of you.

Of course, being who I am, I would also like to share my journey towards living life to the fullest and the path along the way, which will include information on cancer and anything cancer-related, and recipes too! (Anything healthy to help combat cancer, of course.) Essentially, this will be a journey of personal growth, acceptance, and loving life.

I’ve learned that living with metastatic cancer poses obstacles and challenges that are unique (and terrifying), especially for young adults. Although we must all face death at some point in our lives, I never expected to be doing so in my early thirties. I have so much life left to live, so many things I have yet to accomplish, and so many people that I don’t want to leave behind or hurt. I have been on both sides of the cancer coin, first as the glorified first stage cancer patient that makes it out scarred but, ultimately makes it out alive. The fourth stage cancer patient is what I like to refer to as the ‘black sheep’ of the cancer world. This is the patient that represents everything that is wrong with the medical system. We are the forgotten few. This must change! And I hope my blog can also serve as a forum for that change.

I want to share my journey with all of you. Whether you currently have cancer, are a cancer survivor, are living with metastatic/chronic/terminal cancer, are a caregiver to someone with cancer, are someone with a chronic or life-threatening illness, are interested in healthy living, or anyone that wants some inspiration to go on when things seem hopeless, then this blog is for you!

Also, don’t be surprised if there are fashion tidbits every so often that are related to looking and feeling great.

Hopefully, you’ll enjoy tuning in to share in my healing journey with me. There will be tears and frustration at times, but ultimately there will be smiles because “cancer girl always smiles”.

Love, health, and all things that make you sparkle!
xo
